I entered the #Makeartthatsells Global Talent Search to get some other input and work on some other briefs. I sometimes find it difficult to find a topic I’d like to work on when there are so many other things happening. I don’t think I’m not quite good enough yet to make it further than Round 1; however, I feel that I’ve made a lot of progress over the last year, especially on how to approach a brief and in the idea finding phase. I used to jump to conclusions quite quickly and then just work on one idea. Now I try to sketch and explore different options first.
Anyway, the brief asked to create a Garden Journal including staghorn fern and flowers. After a few sketches and colour tests, I created a painting in guoache, and also some handwritten type to then add to the image digitally.
Here is the final one, processed digitally. I added more flowers and added the type. I am quite happy with the piece, and will add it to my portfolio.
